Google Donates £7.5m Grant To Global Fight Against Modern Day Slavery, ThinkMarketing Examines The Impact The Grant Will Have.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 26, 2012 -- http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/dec/14/google-anti-slavery-donation

Money will go to 10 intervention and education organisations working in India, Europe and US to eradicate slave labour. Google is donating £7.5m ($11.5m) in grants to fight modern slavery and its hold on 27 million people worldwide. The donation by the technology giant is believed to be one of the largest corporate initiatives ever to fight slavery. Google said on its charitable website that its grants will "free more than 12,000 people from modern-day slavery" and prevent "millions more from being victimised." This will be fantastic news for many going into the Christmas season. The Managing Director of ThinkMarketing is ‘shocked’ by the amount of people that are held in slavery, ‘living in a first world country so many of us are unaware of what happens outside our world. It is so important for companies like Google to give to such a worthy causes like this as it makes such a difference.’

The company lists 10 recipients of its anti-slavery grants, which will mainly go to intervention and education projects in India, Europe and the United States. The groups International Justice Mission, BBC World Service Trust, ActionAid India and Aide et Action will form a new coalition in India working with governments to stop slave labour. The coalition will identify slavery ring masters, document abuse, free individuals and offer them therapy, Google said. Many of these groups operate under the radar so a lot of work will go into bringing them down.

The Google grants will also go to the non-profit organisations Slavery Footprint and Polaris Project to help track slavery and educate Americans about the problem. ‘It's hard for most Americans to believe that slavery and human trafficking are still massive problems in our world,’ said Gary A. Haugen, president and CEO of International Justice Mission, ‘but it's not hard to believe for the more than 27 million men, women and children held in slavery today.’ It is important that those reading this story feel that they can’t help. Any donation or offering of support in other ways all adds up to eradicating this worldwide problem. ThinkMarketing is based in Edinburgh are an innovative and progressive company that also ensure they are doing their part for their community. ‘If everyone just does one little thing to give back to charity or a cause that is close to their heart it all adds up. Many may not be sure where to start or know how to give back, I would definitely look at your local radio stations website for a start,’ continues the MD of Think Marketing.
