Tucson, AZ - (November 2, 2009) Arizona-based PMI Phoenix Chapter and PMI Tucson Chapter, local links to the Project Management Institute (PMI), the largest and most diverse international organization in the world dedicated to the profession of project management, announced today Janice K. Brewer, Governor of the State of Arizona, has proclaimed this week (November 2-8, 2009) “Arizona Project Management Week.”
The Governor’s proclamation coincides with the 6th Annual International Project Management Day (IPM Day), which is being celebrated on November 5, 2009. IPM Day was established as a way of recognizing the extraordinary efforts made by project management professionals everywhere – across industries and geographies. In addition, the Project Management Institute (PMI) Phoenix Chapter is hosting a symposium with the theme: “Sharpen Your Competitive Edge: Tools for Tough Times” on Friday, November 6 at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel.
The Tucson Chapter of the Project Management Institute was created in 1997 to better serve the needs of project managers in southern Arizona. The group, representing project management in industry, consulting, government and academia, meets twice monthly to network and discuss project management related topics. “Governor Brewer’s proclamation is a timely reminder that as the national economy starts to turn a corner, project managers are playing an important role in successfully leading new projects, using American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds or otherwise” said PMI Tucson chapter president Kevin Archbold, PMP. “Well executed projects are always important to organizations, but in a depressed economy when budgets are extremely tight, project management becomes even more critical.”
