Islandia, New York, April 29, 2010:
“We in the Independence Party applaud Governor Charlie Crist’s recent comments that he is contemplating leaving the Republican Party and that he will run as an independent for the U.S. Senate from Florida. We urge the Governor to move his independent candidacy forward,” stated Independence Party of New York and Independence Party of America Chairman Frank MacKay.
“There is a growing movement in our country, where the vast middle of the electorate is fed up with the two major parties and is looking for an alternative. Governor Crist can be that alternative,” continued MacKay.
“Over the last several years in New York, this movement has been exemplified by the enrollment in our Independence Party increasing at a much faster rate than that of the New York Democratic or Republican Parties. Furthermore, in the 2009 election, our candidates in New York received the largest vote our party has ever experienced. These trends are a bellwether of things to come,” concluded MacKay.
The Independence Party of New York is the largest third party in the history of the United States with over 400,000 members.
