FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) May 15, 2010 -- Kitchen Worktop Prices
If you are updating your kitchen space, it is very important to choose the right products that will not only enhance the look but will appeal to buyers should you be thinking of selling your home in the next few years.

Keeping up with current trends can be pricey, but doing your homework and finding the right suppliers can make all the difference when purchasing your new kitchen materials. Kitchens and bathrooms can make or break the look of your home and its overall resale value. Updated appliances, flooring, hardware and most importantly worktops are the major parts of overall cost to our upgrade or renovation project.

You have several different types of materials to choose from; they vary in prices of course, but with those prices also comes a varying degree of quality. A very common material used for decades, laminates. Brightly coloured Formica tops to faux wood, you can probably remember cringing every time seeing these cheaper counter products. While both run on the low end of the price ranges for kitchen worktops, they lack the quality of most other products available. They are easily stained and do very little to hide or protect from the knick's and cuts that will inevitably come with time. Along with the all to easy to damage that comes with these materials, they also have a tendency to crack, chip and peel showing the rough wood underneath. While these products will reduce your overall cost at approximately £10-40 per linear foot, they will also undoubtedly cheapen the look of your kitchen overall.

Another popular worktop material IS the wood family. Depending on the type of wood you select, you can give your kitchen the "butcher block" effect, costing around £20-65 square foot. While it can be a nice look, it's hardly practical for your entire kitchen; it can be a little overwhelming and a higher maintenance material to keep up. Wood is not accustomed to withstanding the harsher conditions that go along with cooking and prepping dishes, wiping down counter space and keeping a pristine look overall.

You also have your ceramic tiles, while some can be nice to look at, as they are ceramic they can still be chipped and broken. While their lower cost of roughly £5-15 a square foot, might seem appealing, they do not offer the selection or durability of other materials and can quickly become worn and outdated.

If you are willing to spend more for superior quality, then granite is by far the way to go. Part of the natural stone family, granite offers versatility and originality to make your kitchen one of a kind. It is also a material that can be carried on throughout your house into your bathroom space, giving your home an aesthetically pleasing flow. While granite is more costly than other options, its luxurious look, long term durability and easy maintenance makes it worth every penny. Keep in mind a large part of the cost can come from using a professional to install your worktops. These professionals will generally purchase the materials used in your space, and aren't typically going to go out of the way to find you the best prices. They can also mark up the prices, dramatically inflating your overall material costs. Finding your own supplier gives you the control over your budget back. Allowing a third party to purchase your granite is a big risk, selecting your own supplier let's you know the exact cost and look of the granite you want for your space.

Granite does not have to be purchased in the hot off the press slabs. Due to the size of most slabs, many times homeowners and contractors find they have more materials than needed to complete the job. As such, you can purchase left over granite for an even greater reduced price. A good supplier will work for you and help you make the choices you feel good about. They will answer your questions, as well as direct you to the perfect looking granite for your kitchen worktops. While granite may be a luxury item that you might not think you can afford, can you afford to sacrifice the quality of your kitchen with inferior products that some suppliers won't tell you about?
