Elizabeth Ann Lawless, the book's author, is a Forney, Texas native with deep personal connections to FT. Worth, Texas, commonly known as cow town and the “city of cowboys and culture”. The stories, which draw heavily from her well-connected experiences, paint a rich and colorful account of the African American cowboy and rodeo movers and shakers in America during its wildest days, up to the present.
