Greater Raleigh-Durham IREM Chapter to Present Property Maintenance and Risk Management Course

RALEIGH, NC – February 20, 2012 – The Greater Raleigh-Durham Chapter 105 of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) will present “MNT402: Property Maintenance and Risk Management”. The two-day seminar will be held on February 27-28 at the Drucker and Falk Training Center located at 7200 Creedmoor Road, Suite 300 in Raleigh and is designed to give real estate professionals the knowledge necessary to develop a first-rate property maintenance program and manage various types of risk by learning the specifics of planning, implementing, and monitoring property maintenance operations.

MNT402 is among IREM’s highest-rated courses and provides credit towards both the CPM and ARM designations. The seminar will discuss property risk analysis, maintenance challenges, managing routine operations, conservation and environmental hazards, and life safety and emergency programs. Upon completion of the seminar, attendees will be able to create and oversee top-of-the-line maintenance operations and anticipate potential risk, exceed client expectations with property maintenance processes that deliver heightened property performance, and reduce capital expenses through maintenance programs that preserve real estate assets.

IREM President, Gary Triplett, CPM®, says that one of his goals as Chapter President this year is to remind current membership of the value of an IREM education.

“The economic turmoil over the last few years has negatively impacted our organization as many companies, including those that have CPMs in decision-making positions, have stopped funding educational opportunities for their associates,” explains Triplett. “During my term, I hope to see that trend reversed. I am steadfast in my belief that the gold-standard IREM education sets us apart and makes us more attractive to clients making decisions on who is best qualified to manage their property.”

Instructing MNT402 will be Mike McConnell, CPM®, RPA. McConnell is Vice President for Operations for Colonial Properties Trust, a diversified Real Estate Investment Trust. He currently oversees a portfolio of office properties located in Central Florida. He holds the Certified Property Manager and Real Property Administrator designations and is a member of the Institute of Real Estate Management’s National Faculty. He teaches classes for IREM and for BOMI. McConnell has published articles in the Journal of Property Management and is active in IREM and BOMI, having served as Chairman of the Institute’s Income and Expense Advisory Board, as President of the Central Florida IREM Chapter, and as a Director on the Board of BOMI-Orlando.
