I always hear people talking about "going green" and being more environmentally conscious but is solar power worth it? First off I just googled solar power and I got a lot of results but there was one that caught my eye just like it always does and that was the wikipedia page about solar power.

According to Wikipedia solar power is is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). CSP systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. PV converts light into electric current using the photoelectric effect. I guess that makes sense and then when reading a little further down it says, "The only significant problem with solar power is installation cost, although cost has been decreasing due to the learning curve. Developing countries in particular may not have the funds to build solar power plants, although small solar applications are now replacing other sources in the developing world."

The part that says the only significant problem with solar power is is installation cost, that made me think, because if thats the only problem then solar power really isn't a bad thing at all. You just need to do it yourself or get a company to install them that wont charge you an arm and leg. So I did some research to find a solar power company in Arizona that I could talk with about solar power. After calling and emailing a few companies and not getting any response at all finally one company answered to phone and put me through to talk with one of their representatives right then to talk about solar power. The company that I talked with is called Green Monster USA Solar. This company is based out of Phoenix so its close to my home. I always prefer to deal with locals because generally they treat you better, and have great customer service. Green Monster did nothing to sway my opinion of local business. So I went on to ask the representative a few questions about solar power and the industry as whole.

I said, "Thanks for talking with me today I have a few questions for you first off is solar power fake?" He was a little thrown back by this and said something to the effect well no not at all. Solar power is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States because it does two things. First off it harnesses the power of the sun by converting lights into electric currents using the photoelectric effect. Next it makes it so that anything in that house can run off the electricity that was collected by the solar units. Needless to say since I had already done my research on solar power I knew that is what happens and so he only assured what I already knew. After I talked with the guys from Green Monster Solar I got a few emails and calls from different solar companies around Arizona and after talking with them about solar power I am now convinced that solar power is not a bad thing.
