'Raise the Stake' a conference organized by Young Professionals in Local Development

The role played by different stakeholders in the changing local development will be discussed during the conference organized by Young Professionals in Local Development (YPLD) in Siret (Romania) on 18-19 February 2012.

The Conference will bring together practitioners who have a significant track-record in implementation of local and sustainable development projects, European Commission’s officials , local authorities, representatives of prominent international platforms as Young Professionals in Agricultural Research for Development (YPARD) and Connect 4 Climate.

A broad range of issues related to the local development will be presented during YPLD’s Conference. Thus, Bart Soldaat, Secretary General of Groupe de Bruges will present the added value of the LEADER Programme’s approach for the Local Development and the Common Agricultural Policy’s implications and future. Mihail Dumitru, Director of DG AGRI (European Commission) will also examine the role of LEADER Programme in the future of community local development. How the international agricultural research for development affects the local development will be the presentation of Marina Cherbonnier, from YPARD, while the role of meaningful engagement in local sustainability will be discussed by John Ashton, from Aston Eco Management. The importance of social capital and social networking in local development will be presented by Krystyna Larkham, from Rural Est while the importance of social media in climate change will be the contribution of Connect 4Climate platform.

Through the Rise the Stake Conference, YPLD wishes to present successful projects implemented in local communities, good practices of local and sustainable development, but also to introduce methods, assessments and new ideas which can bring an added value to international and local development.

YPLD is a network of professionals aged between 18 and 40 involved in both international and local development through the nature of their education and professional activity. YPLD serves as a platform for Young Professionals (YP) in Local Development (LD) to share their opinions, grow knowledge and skills and foster innovation towards a more sustainable local development. YPLD has already representative in 27 countries across three continents: Europe, Africa, Asia.
