GSA to Showcase Local Art and Artists in downtown Denver

(Free-Press-Release.com) September 16, 2011 -- DENVER – From gritty urban landscapes reflecting an earlier time in America, to soaring black and white photographic vistas, to jagged abstractions in oil that turn out to be realist images of structural steel, Colorado artists offer something for everyone. In October, the U.S. General Services Administration, often referred to as the government's landlord, is sharing the works of three of Colorado's most contemporary artists with the public, hosting a free exhibit in the Alfred A. Arraj Courthouse lobby located at 901 19th Street, Denver.

Starting Monday, Oct.3, through Friday, Oct. 14, the public will have a unique opportunity to view the works of local artists and photographers Gifford Ewing, John Boak, and Rick Dula. The public is also invited to attend the exhibit opening on October 3, 2011 at 4 p.m. in the courthouse lobby where they’ll also get a chance to meet the artists.

“October is the National Endowment for the Arts ‘Arts Month,’ and this free exhibit gives us an opportunity to bring the unique visions of three pioneering Colorado artists directly to the public," said Susan Damour, GSA Regional Administrator. "GSA's Art in Architecture program celebrates the fine arts tradition in America. We are also honored to recognize the fifth anniversary of the opening of the Hamilton Building at the Denver Art Museum and to be good neighbors in the cities where the federal government has facilities

In October 2006, the Denver Art Museum (DAM) nearly doubled in size when it opened one of the countries
most unique structures, the Frederic C. Hamilton Building. This facility includes new galleries for the museums
permanent collection, three temporary exhibition spaces, art storage and public amenities. Since opening its doors, it has served as an iconic symbol for the city of Denver, has contributed to the focus of key leadership groups on Cultural Tourism in metro Denver, and has raised the profile of Denver in the national arts scene.

“Arts and Humanities Month is all about recognizing the unique – and sometimes overlooked – treasures that exist in each of our communities,” said National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Rocco Landesman. “GSA’s exhibition in the courthouse lobby shines a spotlight on three Colorado artists and introduces their work to individuals who might not have another opportunity to experience it. GSA understands that art works to increase community vibrancy.”

GSA’s Art in Architecture Program commissions civic artworks for the nation's federal buildings. The collection of over 1200 installed works reflects the creative energy and vision of generations of artists. The mission of GSA’s Arts Program is to commission and manage the portfolio of fine arts assets under GSA’s stewardship to insure their accessibility, preservation and appropriate use to enhance and promote high quality federal work environments. The GSA Art Program is broken into two programs, the Art in Architecture Program and the Fine Arts Program.
