Haitians and Dominicans Team Up to Rescue Neglected Kids
By Smith Georges
New York – Very often when good things happen between Dominicans and Haitians, they are not reported by both, the Haitian and Dominican media. Because of a bitter past and unresolved issues, the negative continues to overwhelm the positive. I had the pleasure to welcome to my TV show in New York City the Executive Director of Kids Care of Bethel (KCB), Marie-France Guilloux, and the Administrator, Georgina St. Aubin.
Kids Care of Bethel is a non-profit organization registered with the state of New York with the 501(c)3 filing status. The organization is registered in the Dominican Republic as well. Its mission is to house and educate some of the most desperate and unfortunate children in Haiti / Dominican Republic, enabling them to become contributing members of society and leaders of the next generation.
“At first, my intention was not to build an orphanage, but I was so touched by the January 12, 2010 devastating earthquake that struck Haiti, I decided to build an orphanage, a school and a church in the Dominican Republic so I can assist poor children/orphans coming from Haiti and underprivileged Dominican kids as well. We welcome money, computers, school supplies and everything else that we can get for these kids,” said Marie-France Guilloux, the Executive Director of KCB, a Haitian-American.
“Imagine those kids without father and mother - and living in the streets. They have no future. We provide them with shelter, education and spiritual guidance. We need funding to continue our mission. All kids are welcome,” added Georgina St. Aubin, the administrator of KCB, who is Dominican-American.
