http://hardwoodflooring.roswell-ga.net One consumer couple in the Atlanta purchased great looking pre-finished rosewood ''shorts'' at a great deal and had their builder install it in their home. The "shorts" were used by the builder to install the flooring, but the builder had numerous problems with the project. Unfortunately he failed to inform the couple about the problems experienced, although he did his best. The primary problem was due to the fact that the raw material was all ''shorts'' and another barrier to doing a good job was that the floor was not perfectly level. The result was a "sloppy floor", which the couple justifiably blamed on the builder. The couple then compounded their problem by hiring another company to come in and sand off the "baked off finish" (five coats) which resulted in voiding their 25 year warranty on the product. They then had the entire floor re-coated. The secret to avoiding the issues they experienced would have been to ensure that they purchased varying lengths of the flooring shorts, which would have installed more smoothly, and the builder should have made the floor level prior to installing the hardwood flooring.
An informed consumer is always better off than the uninformed. So in the spirit of consumer education, here are some useful facts about hardwood flooring products.
Two popular floors are red and white oak floors which are usually strip oak (no finish) products. This product is available in 1/4 inch by 2 1/4 inch width and is very good flooring in terms of quality and hardness. Red and white oak flooring can be sanded several times over the course of their lifetimes. In terms of strength of the flooring on a scale where the weakest flooring available is yellow pine at 690 and the strongest flooring is Brazilian Cherry at 2,350', the red and white oak floors measure out to a strength of 1,290 for red and 1,360 for white oak.
Another common error for the inexperienced consumer would be to select wood for the home that does not match the home's finish. Buyers should obtain finished samples and ensure the wood or laminate is right for their home before purchasing.
A further tempting mistake is to purchase a "bargain" lot of hardwood at a discount store without knowing why the hardwood is on sale. Terms to be aware of when looking at wood flooring include "distress wood", "shorts" or ''not returnable after delivery or pickup”. Consumers should always be cognizant of the warranties on the wood and what the options for return are.
