(Free-Press-Release.com) February 22, 2011 --
A decommissioned Harrier jump jet removed from eBay after being deemed a military weapon has gone up for sale again – as a garden ornament.
The rare two-seater T2 Harrier, a former museum exhibit, was originally put up for sale on the online auction site after being restored by Bradford company Jet Art Aviation.
The item received 140,000 hits and 80 bids of up to £94,000 before eBay removed it, citing strict policies in regards to the sale of military weaponry.
It has now found a new home at price comparison site QuotesPlease.co.uk, where it is being promoted as a decorative 'entrance guardian'.
Managing Director Duncan Gledhill said he was satisfied that the Harrier - which could not be flown and was being sold for display use only – was safe.
He said: “All that is being offered for sale is the outer shell. It's combat days are firmly in the past.
“It's a perfectly safe and legitimate item to sell and we are proud to be promoting such a fantastic piece of aviation history.
“It's future lies as a decorative item. It would make a spectacular talking point in the grounds or gardens of a business or institution.”
Aircraft restoration expert and managing director of Jet Art Aviation, Chris Wilson, 33, said that the jet had been stripped of all its equipment and weaponry before it left the RAF, and was fully licenced.
He added: “I have sold seven Harriers in the past to museums and collectors abroad and like the other, this one has all the necessary licences.
“It does make the ultimate reception feature for any business."
The Harrier, built in 1971, is one of only four of its kind left in the world.
It is the first aircraft to be put up for sale by London-based company QuotesPlease, which sources the cheapest quotations from a range of trusted service or product suppliers, and matches them with visitors’ requirements.
Until recently, its areas of expertise were limited to the most common searches for serviced offices in london, web design, debt collection, office furniture, computers and construction equipment.
Mr Gledhill, who launched QuotesPlease with his brother Jamie in 2006, expects the Harrier to sell for around £70,000.
He added: “We pride ourselves on being able to get quotations for most things.”
