New York, NY – Richard P. Brown, MD, and Patricia L. Gerbarg, MD, integrative mental health experts, will speak at the 11th Annual Women’s Health and Fitness Expo at Tech City, Kingston, New York, Saturday, May 7, 2011. Dr. Gerbarg, a featured speaker on the Main Stage from 8 am to 9 am, will discuss “Natural Treatments for Women: PMS, Sexual Function, Pregnancy, Fertility & Menopause” including wellness solutions from the award-winning book she co-authored with Dr. Brown and Dr. Philip Muskin, HOW TO USE HERBS, NUTRIENTS, AND YOGA IN MENTAL HEALTH CARE (WW Norton). Dr. Brown will teach a “Breath~Body~Mind Workshop for Relief of Stress, Anxiety, and Worry” at 11 am.

“I will explain how women can benefit from low-cost natural treatments to relieve hormone-related changes including PMS, post-partum depression, menopause and sexual dysfunction. Herbs, vitamins, nutrients, certain hormones, and mind-body practices can effectively reduce physical discomforts, anxiety, depression, irritability, and problems with cognition and memory,” says Dr. Gerbarg.

Dr. Brown will lead a set of gentle movement, breathing and relaxation practices that help reduce anxiety, insomnia, depression, PTSD, high blood pressure, fatigue, and other stress-related problems.

Dr. Gerbarg is a clinically trained psychiatrist and Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychiatry at New York Medical College. She graduated from Harvard Medical School and the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. In addition to her clinical practice in Kingston, NY, she provides consultation and facilitates the development of research projects on the health benefits of mind-body practices for recovery from mass disasters such at the September 11th World Trade Center attacks, the southeast Asian tsunami, the Gulf oil spill, and military personnel.

Dr. Brown is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University in New York. He gives over 200 medical lectures every year, as well as workshops for non-profits such as Serving Those Who Serve in New York City. He is a certified teacher of Aikido (4th Dan), Yoga, Qi Gong, and meditation. His workshops have helped thousands of people deal with everyday stress and enabled survivors of trauma and mass disasters to recover their health and well-being.

Drs. Brown and Gerbarg have been interviewed extensively by radio stations, magazines, and newspapers. They maintain a web site providing health information and resources at HaveAHealthyMind.com.

Debra Karnasiewicz, MD, internist and founder of the Women’s Health and Fitness Foundation, and Director of the Women’s Health and Fitness Expo, comments that the approach and focus of the Expo “is very unique; we bring it all together in one place so women (and now men) can choose what appeals to them. Becoming more health-conscious is a process and it’s different for everybody. We give women access to the best information and experts in the fields of health, nutrition and fitness.” Approximately 5,000 women who want to educate themselves about health, nutrition, and fitness attend each year. This year, the Food Network’s “The Next Iron Chef”, MTV yoga star Kristin McGee, and reality TV stars from NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” are also among Expo presenters.
