Hawaii Now Accepts “Substantially Similar” Annuity Training Completed in Other States

Newport Beach, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) November 22, 2011 -- Hawaii’s Division of Insurance has decided to accept NAIC Annuity Suitability training completed in other states, provided that those states have training requirements that are “substantially similar” to Hawaii’s.

Insurance producers who sell annuities in Hawaii are no longer required to complete a separate Annuity Suitability CE course as long as they have completed the training in a state with a comparable requirement.

Notice of this act comes in a departmental memorandum that states, “… the Division will recognize the completion of annuity training courses by Hawaii resident and nonresident insurance producers that are approved by another state with annuity training requirements that are substantially similar to act 108. In addition, the Division plans to introduce amendments to the Insurance Code that would adopt reciprocity provisions during the 2012 legislative session.” MEMORANDUM 2011-2LIC REVISED
