Hawaiian poet & novelist KIRBY WRIGHT has won a prestigious Martha's Vineyard Residency in historic Edgartown, Mass. He is the first male writer to ever attend the month-long residency held every October. The Martha's Vineyard Writers Residency aims at bringing off-island writers to Edgartown in order to facilitate a larger writing community.
During his residency, Wright plans on completing his memoir set in Hawaii during the 60s and 70s. Some of the chapters are set at Punahou School, the alma mater of President Obama. Wright also intends to visit Chappaquiddick Island and plans on writing poetry dedicated to the memory of Mary Jo Kopechne.
Kirby Wright is the author of the companion novels PUNAHOU BLUES and MOLOKA'I NUI AHINA, both set in Hawaii. He was a Visiting Writer at the 2009 International Writers Conference in Hong Kong, where he represented the Pacific Rim region of Hawaii. He has work just published or forthcoming in Pisgah Review, Owen Wister Review, 580 Split, and Foliate Oak Literary Journal.
