HBD Builds One-of-a-Kind Grocery Store

(Free-Press-Release.com) January 31, 2012 -- HBD Construction is putting the super in supermarket as they build the first area grocery store with an underground parking garage. HBD and innovative grocery giant, Dierbergs have teamed up to build a free-standing 80,000 square-foot store on approximately 6.5 acres. The new store, located in Des Peres off Manchester Road, will have the distinction of being the first St. Louis area supermarket to offer covered parking, with 42% of its parking spaces planned for a brightly-lit lower level garage. The construction completion date is estimated to be July 31, 2012.

“This Des Peres location is going to be the finest, most revolutionary store among their 24 locations.” HBD President, Mike Perry, stated, “To call it their flagship is probably an understatement. We couldn’t be happier to be building our eighth store for the Dierbergs team.”

Bordered to the north by Manchester Road, Lindeman Road on the west, Tallie Drive on the east and Manhattan Avenue on the south, the site plan provides customer and cart escalators and elevators leading directly into the supermarket. HBD Project Manager, Gerry Hill said, “This location will offer a smooth and dry one-of-a-kind shopping experience in inclement weather.” Recent averages show precipitation in St. Louis on 111 days out of 365.

The Des Peres Dierbergs will be the chain’s first multi-level store and will have a 5,000 square feet mezzanine which will give customers an opportunity to enjoy many offerings of freshly prepared foods. The store will also boast the largest Dierbergs produce department to date, a remote drive-through pharmacy in the covered parking area, a new Dierbergs Florist & Gifts, an extensive Whole Life Foods section, a larger seafood department, a multitude of in-store food-education opportunities.

In addition to HBD Construction, the new Des Peres Dierbergs store project has involved many other companies that are working closely together to refine the revolutionary concept. The Jacobs Group served as the design architects while Dawdy & Associates are serving as architect of record and working drawings.
