HDV-Z96 compares with YONGNUO YN -160 Led Light

YN-160 is one of small led panel light from YONGNUO. As I know, YONGNUO only produces 2 this panel lights until now. More we know as its flash units just like YN-565EX, YN-560 speedlight, YN-460 speedlite and so on. But honestly, YN-160 is also a good led light.

The YN-160 is bigger than Z96 – about the same size as the CN-160. It comes with barndoors, to me, it's unuseful.

It is a pity, the swiveling hotshoe mount is a little soft and weak. So there is no easy way to mount it on the Manfrotto magic arm. You have to come up with your own solution.

YN-160 LED Light output is good. The brightness is ok. Powered by 6 AA batteries, or other popular batteries (Panasonic CGR-D16S, Sony NP-FH70, NP-FM55H, NP-F550).

4 color filters (frost, Tungsten, magenta and blue) are all included, together with a handle. YN-160 comes with LED batery indicator and dimmer buttons. z96 don't have the battery indicator.

Advantages:

Very bright, multi power supplies, multi accessories(color filters, handle and barndoors)

Disadvantages:

not good hotshoe mount, no dimming wheel

All in all ,YONGNUO YN-160 is also a good light according to the price/performance. And YONGNUO is modifying their products and YN-160 may be better now.

The Z96 – 800 Lux without barn doors

HDV-Z96 is developed by Chinese manufacturer F&V Llight Company and the well known film light company Dedolight. So the qulity is as you know.

Z96 comes with link mount to connect multi z96 lights together makeing a big powerful LED panel light. This is really a great feature and adds more functions for hdv-z96.

The light can be powered by five AA batteries, a Sony L-series battery ( LF570, F770, F970 ,F550,F750), or any 5.8 -16,8V DC source.

Z96 is with very well daylight balance.Compareing with YN-160, the feature is better. Another most welcomed highlight is the magnet clip. If other on camera lights CN-160/CN-126/YN-160 all use this, it's better.


Z96 comes with a plastic ball head adapter which could mount on nearly any hot shoe. The battery lid is pretty good to be as protection and neatly to open/close.


Advantages:
Super bright, Multi power supplies, very good daylight balance, nice build quality, multi-functional combo, magnet clip

Disadvantages:

AS a small panel light, I don't find its disadvantages until now.


If I have to choose one (except I need a big strong light), I think I would go with the Z96, because of the super brightness, light quality and it has a dimming wheel instead of that buttons .
