Monica there is a lot of talk these days about nutrition in the school system. Or I should say lack thereof? It seems the first lady, Michelle Obama has taken an initiative towards this with her “Let’s Move” campaign in an effort to fight childhood obesity.
Health eLunch Kids has made an enormous stride towards eradicating childhood obesity. One of these methods is by empowering parents. I understand you have new software that assists with that. Can you tell me a little about what it does?
"Children and parents have the ability to sit down together and pre-order school lunches online. These healthy lunch alternatives are then delivered directly to the school."
How do parents access this program?
"We at Health eLunch Kids are contacting schools directly to implement the program. We provide the schools with literature that is distributed to the children for their parents to read."
This sounds fascinating. How exactly do parents and children use the software?
"Parents start by opening an account online and entering their child's/children's name to create a profile. They can then go through and choose from a wide variety of fixed lunches or a la carte menus. There is a calendar to choose what lunches will be delivered on what days. The program is very user friendly and loaded with delicious food and pictures to encourage children to participate in the choices. Parents can feel confident when giving free reign to their kids because everything on the menu is good for them."
It would seem that something like this could really take off. Is there an advantage to schools using this? Often change seems to scare people off.
"It's true that change is sometimes difficult, especially in a structured environment such as schools. However, budgets are a much scarier subject in the school systems. The Health eLunch Kids program saves the school time and money. Less waste and clean up, shorter lunch lines and better behaved children. It has been proven that children who eat healthy are less likely to misbehave in school, have an increased attention span and learn better. Schools can take advantage of specials such as a Brain Food Box promotion during testing week. This can provide the schools with an incremental income. Here is one example where a minor change is a win win for everyone."
I can certainly see this going mainstream. How can schools and parent find out more information?
" We can be seen online at http://healthelunchkids.com/ we encourage people to contact us for information and are always happy to answer any questions they might have."
