The Camp Eden Health Retreat rainforest falls under the white booyong sub-alliance described by Floyd (1990). Floyd emphasizes the conversation value of the white ebooyong alliance of the Tweed environs and describes it as one of the most luxuriant rainforests in Currumbin Valley. Black Walnut, Veiny Lace Flower, Long-Leaved Tuckeroo, and the rare species southern fontainea, were found in the rainforest.

Sub-tropical rainforests are generally found where the rainfall is more than 1300mm annually and growing in fertile entropic parent rocks (basalt and rich shale’s), you'll most likely find subtropical rainforest favoring sheltered gullies from sea level to about 900 meters.

There is normally a well developed multi layered canopy of between 10 and 60 species of trees, many of which will exhibit the buttressing commonly associated with rainforest trees. Strangler species, including the ubiquitous Strangler Fig, stands of Bangalow Palms, woody vines and large epiphytes such as Orchids, Birdsnest, Elk and Staghorn ferns will be obvious, and the ground cover will consist of ground ferns and large leafed herbs.

Subtropical rainforests can be found from the mountains to the coast in south-eastern Queensland and north-eastern New South Wales. Only small patches of once extensive forests remain at lower elevations but larger tracts still occur along the escarpment of the Great Dividing Range.
