Mounds of spicy BBQ chicken wings, and of course, plenty of brew!

Super Bowl Sunday is here!

A day that can wreck havoc on the lifestyles of Girlfriends who have resolved to shed those extra pounds for the New Year. However, you can score BIG without jeopardizing your waistline by putting together a game-day eating strategy then tackling it play-by-play.

Pregame—Kickoff with a light meal

Don’t starve yourself until the 5 pm (CST) game time, kickoff earlier in the day with a light healthy meal such as a turkey wrap and a broth-based soup, or a small grilled-chicken spinach salad.

First Quarter – Size up your players
Check out all available food options before piling up your plate. To keep portions under control, use your hand as a guide: a fist equals about a cup, the palm of your hand designates 3 ounces, a normal serving of meat. Remember less is best.

Second Quarter – Beverage interception

Did you know two cans (24 ozs.) of regular soda have more calories than a small order of French fries? Opt for water or diet soda or seltzer instead. If you do partake in alcoholic beverages, drink responsibly and limit your consumption to one or two small drinks.

Halftime—Sideline action
Don’t just sit around, get up and move! (Step away from the food!) Go outside, take a quick walk to the corner, stretch, do some knee bends or get a Soul Train line going during halftime!

Third Quarter – Control the game
Start practicing your “passing plays” now. Pass on that extra plate of food, that extra drink, and those sugary store-bought desserts. If you still want to nibble, then run towards the fresh fruit and veggie trays.

Fourth Quarter – Team timeout

Sideline your eating and drinking at this point of the game. Use this time to cheer on your favorite team to victory.

Post-Game – MVP celebration
By playing both offense and defense while executing these healthy touchdown tips, you can be the MVP of Super Bowl Sunday and celebrate your game-day eating success!

So suit up, grab a plate and catch the winning pass by putting these healthy touchdown tips into play!
