Heanton Residents enjoy new Sensory Room
Elderly residents at the award-winning Heanton Nursing Home have welcomed a new, updated sensory room where they can now relax in peace and quiet.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) July 27, 2011 --
Residents at the award-winning Heanton Nursing Home have been enjoying some special quiet time in their newly decorated ‘sensory room’.
The sensory room provides relaxation and therapy for all residents, particularly those with dementia, and is filled with twinkling lights, tactile materials and decorations.
Staff at Heanton have transformed the room in the 64-bed home using mainly recycled materials to make a ‘starry sky’, tissue paper ‘stained glass’ windows, lavender bags and an ocean mural with dozens of shimmering fish.
Care Home manager, Jo Rutherford, told us: “The Sensory room is a great place for our residents to go and relax. The different smells, sounds and decorations help stimulate them which is really important for people with dementia.
“We had a sensory room before but we wanted to make it a better environment for the residents and I think we have achieved that.”
