Heartland Pride (Omaha, NE) Announces June 24TH Harvey Milk Memorial Pride Vigil

Omaha, Nebraska, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) June 20, 2011 -- OMAHA, NE and COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA (www.heartlandpride.org) - - Heartland Pride will
remember, celebrate and give thanks for Harvey Milk, an American politician who became
the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California. Milk became an icon in
San Francisco, and recently the United States for gay (civil) rights.

This community event involves local organizations such as CFEP (Citizens for Equal
Protection), Metropolitan Community Church of Omaha, Northside Christian Church, Local

Gay Straight Alliances from area universities, Proud Horizons Youth Group and PFLG
(Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbian and Gays)

The group with gather on the historic steps of the Douglas County Courthouse on
Thursday, June 24th at 7pm. A brief program will lead the group into lighting candles
symbolizing our strength in numbers, respect for the past contributions of the GLBT
community and pledge our support to become united with each other and our allies in
support of GLBT issues.

Heartland Pride is a non-profit service organization within the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual,

Transgender Communities and Allies of Greater Nebraska and Western Iowa. We are
committed to creating an inclusive environment, inspiring equality, celebrating diversity's,
while acknowledging the contributions of our community. We honor those who came
before us and give thanks to our allies. Heartland GLBT Pride will be June 25th 2011.
11am parade from 10th and Farnam to 10th and Pacific. Festival opening ceremonies at
12pm in front of the historic Burlington Railroad building.
