Higgenbotham Auctioneers International (HAI) announced today that their firm would be conducting the auction of a luxurious Phoenix Az., estate formally owned by Senator John & Cindy McCain on December 4th and 5th. This is a public auction with the real estate and furnishings being offered separately.
Appraised at more than $12 million, the 2.1± ac. estate includes over 15,000± s.f. living space, 13 bedrooms, 14.5 baths, two guest homes, a grand Mediterranean resort style pool and spa area, seven car air-conditioned garage and ten fireplaces. The lavish estate will be sold at any bid above $5.9 million and its Mediterranean style furnishings will be offered absolute to the last and highest bidder. Owner financing is available on the real estate.
The decor of the estates two guest homes as well as exterior furnishings and statuary will be auctioned at 1p.m. Friday, December 4th, while the main home furnishings will be offered beginning at 10a.m. Saturday, December 5th. The real estate will be offered at 11a.m. Saturday after which the remaining household items will be sold until the final hammer falls. An auction preview is slated from 10a.m.-1p.m. Friday, December 4th. Real estate viewings will be available by appointment only.
Located at 7110 N. Central Avenue in Phoenix, Az., the home was built in 1951 by Cindy McCain’s parents. Following her marriage to Senator John McCain the couple resided in the home for more than 20 years. In what was said by Mrs. McCain “to be a bitter sweet decision,” the McCain’s sold the home in 2006 for $3.2. Million to Jane Popple, a Las Vegas based real estate investor.
The auction will be held live onsite with Internet bidding available to those who are unable to attend.
After her prized acquisition, Popple began an ambitious multi million-dollar renovation that changed the look and feel of the estate from its vintage southwestern décor to an extravagant Mediterranean villa.
Several McCain touches are left over in the completely renovated and improved home. A concrete slab near a secondary front entrance of the house exhibits where the McCain’s wrote their names in the wet concrete. The names of their two children Meghan and Jack also present there, as well as a series of tiny hand and footprints.
A separate visage of days gone by is seen on the master bedroom’s custom fireplace mantel, which has the letters “McC”, engraved at its corners.
“This is a very remarkable offering,” stated Laura Whitt Slocumb HAI’s director of business development. Not only are we talking about the storied history of the estate but also the shear value of this property is staggering. Dollar for dollar an investor could not replace this home for the minimum-asking bid. It would be It would be impossible.”
