High-Cost Organic Lifestyle Myth Busted by Media Producer

June 16, 2010

Producer and host Leah Guy busts the myth of high-cost organic lifestyle with investigative report featuring shopping comparison in two high-profile locations.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) June 16, 2010 -- Jersey City, NJ, June 16, 2010  -- Healthy living expert, Leah Guy, continues to dispel myths of organic lifestyle often associated with cost, benefits and value. She debunks the myth of the high-price lifestyle by doing a comparison shop at a well-known organic market chain and then purchasing the same items, non-organic, at a commercial grocer retailer. The price difference: 40 cents.

Leah Guy, host of the healthy tv show A Girl Named Guy, makes a living at discovering low-cost/high value organic lifestyle tips and sharing them with her viewers. Her most recent healthy living tips include shopping. “To live a healthy life, it includes balance in all areas. Not everyone can afford weekly Reiki treatments or organic socks for their toddler. However, with the demand of organic foods growing, the prices are more reasonable than ever. Everyone can shop organic, live green and feel better about what they are putting inside their bodies,” says Guy.

There are 3 tiers of healthy eating. Processed/packaged “food”, commercially harvested non-organic foods (often genetically modified) and organic food. For staple items, Guy says that most commercial large chain retail grocers now carry a private label organic line of household and food items. The price difference of a can of organic beans vs non-organic will be less than .10. Guy’s healthy living tips suggest for all staple items, go private label organics, and for less-used household items, shop the internet for deals. “For produce, veggies and meat/poultry, it’s best to shop local organic farmers when possible. The prices are reasonable, the organic certification helps avoid contamination from chemicals and cross-over genetically modified “foods” and you are doing something positive for your local community,” says Guy.

In the video (found at www.LeahGuy.com), Guy takes a trip with a camera to both grocers to test her theory. “I honestly didn’t know what the outcome would be, but I’m tired of people using the excuse that “eating organic” is so much more expensive. I knew that wasn’t the case if shopped correctly.” Guy bought mostly staple items like bread, eggs, milk, veggies, peanut butter at both stores and in fact, her theory was proven. The .40 difference between commercial grade foods and organics was well worth the two trips to the market. “As much as I love foods and healthy living, I don’t like to shop. That day – two shopping trips – was one of the most fun days of my life. Now, when people say to me “I can’t afford to eat healthy, I just direct them to the video. Then, I hand them .40.”
