Highly Unsuitable Girl

January 4, 2012

New novel from prize-winning author Carolyn McCrae

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 4, 2012 -- A Highly Unsuitable Girl is the latest novel from award-winning Shropshire novelist Carolyn McCrae and showcases her talent for absorbing, strong characters and complex storylines. ‘So many books about relationships allow for no development of character and assume that lives can be sorted out in a few weeks or even after one single life changing event,’ says Carolyn. ‘Highly Unsuitable Girl follows a woman through thirty years of the ebbs and flows of her life, until she reaches some degree of self-understanding.’

Carolyn’s earlier books include The Iniquities Trilogy comprising The Last Dance (which won the David St John Thomas Prize for Self-Published Fiction in 2006), Walking Alone and Runaways. Carolyn started working on Highly Unsuitable Girl in 2009 while in Barbados. ‘I had a couple of days off and was reading the books left in the villa. I didn’t like the look of any of them so rather than read I began to write. By the end of the weekend I had the plot mapped out and the first three chapters written,’ says Carolyn. ‘It was not supposed to take 18 months to complete, but what started out as a straightforward story of a relationship developed into something more substantial and, hopefully, more satisfying and enjoyable.’

About the book:

There were always two Anya Caves. Some who knew her when she was young saw an intelligent, attractive girl who would go far. But always, too close to the surface, was the Anya who was promiscuous, self-obsessed and manipulative. She was never going to be a suitable wife for Geoff and their first attempt at marriage fails in the face of his mother’s opposition and the connivance of people she thought were her friends. Happiness eludes her as she makes a succession of mistakes and misjudgements rooted in the circumstances of her birth. Only when three men, from very different stages of her life, make her face up to how much she has misjudged others and misunderstood about herself can she identify which Anya is the winner in her life-long battle between the girl she was and the woman she wants to be.

About the Author:
Born and bred a northerner, Carolyn moved to Kent after university. Four times married, but with no children, she has for thirty years been a self-employed businesswoman. Now, as she approaches retirement, she has the time to write the books she has had in her head for years.
