The Professional Golfers Career College is not just concerned with the education and skill development of its students; it’s also committed to the enrichment of the community through volunteering. Late June 2010 the golf college in Hilton Head provided the Week of Champions, Inc., a non-profit ministry, with a staff of 28 students from all class levels to lead the junior golf clinic for their week-long event. Established in 1979 the Week of Champions set out to involve Lowcountry youth with inspirational professional athletes who set a positive example. The organization, which has now been operating for over three decades, has grown considerably in that time expanding from 3 professional athletes and 50 youth in its inaugural camp, to 64 athletes and over 2,700 youth at its 30th, and it now features camps for Baseball, Football, Tennis, Golf, Soccer, Cheerleading and Basketball.
Head coach of the Clemson University Tigers football team, "Dabo" Swinney was on hand as the keynote speaker for the Week of Champions event. Held at the Arthur Hills Golf Club, at the Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, the golf clinic ran for three hours and in that time the golf college students were able to instruct participants on golf basics like, putting, chipping, bunker play, pitching, full swing, exercises and perhaps most importantly, the mental part of the game, like picturing ball flight. Director of Placement at PGCC Hilton Head, Jim Hoff, noted “This is a perfect opportunity for our students to get hands-on experience working with large groups in a clinic setting.”
