“Braids at the hairline are very in this season, because they are cute, hip and really easy to do. For the holidays, braids can be more festive by doing things like incorporating the braid into a ragged chignon or textured ponytail, braiding cloth or ribbon into the braid or adding a cute headband or barrette,” explains West.
Technique (West suggests sticking to one braid, not two)
1. Part the first 3 inches of hair from the hairline as a side part
2. From that section, take a horizontal part beyond the ear - the section will be like a crescent shape along the hairline
3. Clip the rest of the hair up to keep it out of the way
4. Take another vertical parting parallel to the side part you already put in and divide that into 3 sections like you would for a braid
5. French braid down the hairline and end a bit past the ear - fringe can be loosely incorporated or left out.
6. At the nape of the neck, secure braid into a low ponytail. For a ragged chignon, add texture to hair before pulling through elastic and on your last pull through, only go halfway and that will create the shape of a chignon. Finish by randomly pulling pieces through and spraying with Matrix Vavoom ShapeMAKER Shaping Spray.
