The Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Rajendra Hazare on Tuesday issued summons to seven top officials of the Mumbai-based real estate developers Hiranandani Group for violating environmental laws in the upcoming 2500 MW gas-based power plant at Talegaon Dabhade.
Pandurang Namdeo Mavale, secretary of Navlakh Umbre Paryavaran Parisar Vikas Sangh (NUPPVS), had filed a criminal complaint on Friday against 18 officials of the Hiranandani group and state government departments.
The summons have been issued against M/s Hindustan Electricity Generation Company Pvt. Ltd. (HEGC) and its managing director Niranjan Hiranandani, director Darshan Hiranandani, director Kamal Niranjan Hiranandani, former manager Chirag Shantilal Nagada, secretary Tripti Ramchandra Yadav and manager Milin Gokhle.
The court found them punishable under sections 15, 16, 17 of Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986 and sections 25 and 44 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.
