Hiring Practices – Key to Profitability

January 6, 2012 Insurance news in Orlando,Florida, United States of America

What has been understood over the past few years is that one of the contributing factors that positively or negatively affects the success of your Worker Compensation program are your hiring practices

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Orlando, Florida, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 6, 2012 -- Medical costs are expected to increase in the coming years which will increase the cost of your Workers’ Compensation coverage. This is validated by the fact that NCCI has increased Florida Workers’ Compensation rates two (2) years in a row (2011 – 7.8%, 2012 – 8.9%) following a 61.9% drop in rates from 2003-2010.
It is an important issue today for construction companies to control the number and amount of WC claims they incur. Statistically, it has been shown that a higher percentage of claims are occurring with employees who have been employed less than one (1) year.

Typically, this has occurred due to a number of reasons. The need for training leads the list of action steps companies must make time for. Another important, yet not recognized factor is the relationship that good hiring practices have on good Workers Compensation results.

Although fraud makes up only a small portion of the negative impact of WC results, it is critical to protect yourself from hiring the proverbial “dog that can point but can’t hunt”. These are the people who interview very well, tell you what you want to hear, but are not a good fit for your company.

Do you have good employee application in use with the latest fraud statements in use today? Are you using medical health questionnaires and conditional offers of employment letters in your hiring process? Some companies are utilizing personality profile tests to help insure hiring the “right” employee.
