FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) February 17, 2012 -- Story:
Bob and Evelyn Swarner, were pickers and antique collectors back fifty some years ago during the early 1960's. It was on one of these auction trips into Illinois, that they had a chance to buy a hardwood walnut bed. Now, this was not just an ordinary walnut bed, it was a ornately carved walnut bed that had come from a local hotel. In fact, it was the very bed that Abraham Lincoln had slept in, during his political campaigns in Illinois.

In 1858 when Abraham Lincoln was running for the senate seat of Illinois, he participated in a series of seven debates with Stephen Douglas. These debates are credited with elevating Lincoln's profile to presidential candidate status, as they were widely covered in newspapers across the nation.

This gained Lincoln the significant national attention that would propel him towards a run for the presidency two years later. While participating in these debates, Abraham Lincoln slept in this bed a a local hotel. A wealthy family purchased the bed from the hotel and used it privately until the Swarner's purchased it at the estate auction nearly 50 years ago.

Bob tells of bidding on the bed, where the other bidder wanted to cut the bed up for the walnut lumber. Well, Bob was going to have none of that, and ended up with the winning bid of $15. Now, they just had to figure out how to get it back home to Iowa. They really hadn't planned on buying a bed, and certainly not a bed as big (over seven feet tall) and heavy as this one.

When they arrived home and took some measurements, Evelyn exclaimed, “What do you mean we will have to take the second story bedroom window frame out to get the bed in the house?” Well that is exactly what they did, and Bob and Evelyn slept on the Lincoln bed every night till they both passed on last year, both were 88.

Their daughter wants this bed to go to a loving home where it will be appreciated for it's historical significance. This antique and historical family heirloom is going to the highest bidder on eBay. Watch the video to learn more, or visit the website http://TheLincolnBed.com

As Ray LaFoy remarked, “There is no need to donate money to a politician for a chance to spend just one night in the Lincoln Bedroom. Now a person could bring the Lincoln Bed to their own home – and sleep in it every night!”
