(Seattle, WA) Under the banner of “Building Life,” the staff and volunteers at Seattle’s historic Church of Christ have put more ‘new life’ into a grand old building, which was built 84 years ago and stands proudly at the corner of 8th Avenue West and West Halladay on Queen Anne Hill. Considered one of Washington’s most endangered historic properties, church minister Jay Kelly set the wheels in motion to raise funding to not only preserve the church but to renovate it, as well, making it a central part of the community.
On Saturday evening, October 2, 2010, members of the congregation, along with neighbors and friends packed the historic church to have fun, fellowship and raise funds at the Third Annual Church of Christ ‘Building Life’ Auction.
Pastor Kelly began the auction by announcing that the church had received a much sought after challenge grant of $25,000. “Our goal tonight,” said Jay, “is to meet challenge that so that we can continue to restore this wonderful Seattle building.”
Former Seattle Seahawk fullback Mack Strong was among those in attendance and he brought a number pieces of autographed Seahawk memorabilia that were a huge hit!
The evening’s auctioneer, April Brown and her team of auction professionals, was back for the third year in a row. “This is one of the best auction audiences in the world!” said April. “The delicious hors d’oeuvres were prepared and served by church members. A feast for the eyes and stomach!’
Highlights from this year’s event included a performance by nationally known musician and church member Danny Figgins, who brought the crowd to its feet in a rousing sing-along. It was a night to remember!
Celebrating nearly 20 years of successful fund raising, April Brown’s Powerhouse Auction Team, which has raised over 350 million dollars for numerous charities, includes a trio of auction professionals, including Seattle media personalities Mike Brown from ESPN 710, Neil Scott, update anchor on Sports Radio 950 KJR and Eric Kirchner, KGW 8 Portland, along with actors and auctioneers Pat Cashman, Keven Snyder, and April Brown. April Brown’s Charity Auction World is one of the West Coast’s premier auction services, specializing exclusively in working with non-profit organizations to maximize money raised. www.charityauctionworld.com
