FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) November 11, 2009 --
It is called the "CSX Railroad" now, but for railroad historian, Peter Maynard, the old Baltimore and Ohio Railroad lives on in his stories. When writing his historical novels it helps that he lives next to the "Main Line" of the railroad, with trains whistling past at short intervals.
Maynard's book, "The Railroad Came - and a Special Community Grew in Brunswick, Maryland", begins in 1899 when a "hayseed" came to what was a tiny village and deceitfully began buying up farm land from people for use by the B & O Railroad. A few felt cheated at first but later let themselves be caught up in the euphoria of "progress" for the town which was to come to play an important role for a great railroad enterprise. It was
a time when wives prayed for their husband to come home from work with their hands and feet still intact, or even come back alive. Part of the book is a series of interviews with people of the "old" Brunswick many of whom had been B & O Railroad employees. You will meet "Catfish" Burkhart and "Sonny" Cannon.
"I have been writing about people during most of my life, beginning at about the age of six when Santa Claus brought me a toy typewriter. Back then I would like to imagine what would happen to the characters in my favorite novels, after the last page of the book had been turned. I tried to write sequels. And this book ... it could be called one more sequel," states Maynard.
Other books by Peter Maynard are:

"Brunswick Stew"
"The Brunswick Roundhouse in the Age of Steam"
"Wever of the B&O Railroad and Weverton"
"Into the Battle ... Peacefully"
