Hodgepodge offers coffee, cupcakes, art, and earth in historic East Atlanta.
ATLANTA, GA - Hodgepodge Coffeehouse and Gallery plans to open its doors in January 2012 and offer more than gourmet coffee, this establishment is devoted to being a community-focused and environmentally conscious place for artists, cupcake and coffee lovers. Nestled across the street from Little Azio, Spoon and Morelli’s, HodgePodge is primed to welcome to East Atlanta’s bustling neighborhood. Aiming to provide great coffee, great cake, and a great atmosphere, the owners are already planning their first gallery exhibit, which will coincide with the grand opening celebration in January. They welcome all to Hodgepodge, a well-blended mix of coffee, cupcakes and community.
Hodgepodge is located at 720 Moreland Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30316, a historic building completing renovation in East Atlanta. Exposed brick, dark wood rafters and white mortar are original to the 3200 square foot space built in 1940, and as much as possible has been kept in tact for the gallery, seating area, and a bistro. The wall length windows of the storefront inspired the glass garage doors separating the new back lot, offering expansive parking and future plans for a garden.
Owners, Lynne Tanzer and Krystle Rodriguez, are both 27, and envision space that welcomes art, classes, and clubs, “a place that people literally think of as their second home.” For Krystle and Lynne, that includes cupcakes and coffee. Batdorf & Bronson have signed on as the exclusive roaster for HodgePodge. Local to Atlanta, Batdorf & Bronson is a perfect match for Hodgepodge. With Jason Dominy as head of outreach and wholesale support, the roastery goes above and beyond to encourage community involvement.
Melissa Cox, Lead Barista, is a Georgia native and folk artist born and raised in Clayton County. Her coffee passions started in childhood but came to full fruition when she began working at the first specialty coffee shop in Atlanta to feature Batdorf & Bronson roasted coffee a decade ago. After 10 years of being a barista peon she is phenomenally excited to get her hands dirty with assisting the opening of a family oriented coffee shop/art gallery- especially considering its closeness to where her heart connects the most, Southeast Atlanta.
The spark for Hodgepodge began with the success of Krystle’s first project, The Cupcake Crusade, a small cupcake catering and delivery business serving the Atlanta and metro areas. The popularity of its deconstructed dessert flavors, like Pineapple Upside Down, Banana Pudding, and Hodgepodge, gave the coffeehouse momentum. Soon after, the duo landed a third partner, Krystle’s mother, Mauvelette McNeil. Now headquartered at Hodgepodge, The Cupcake Crusade has a permanent home.
Hodgepodge’s soft open kicks off the week of December 26, and will offer tastings to members of the press by appointment. For press inquires, gallery rented, and expanded menus, contact:
