You may think that the magic has passed and that Lapland is only really a Christmas destination. Lapland is a fantastic place to visit and there really is no other place that offers such beauty as the changing seasons occur. March and April is a really lovely time to visit as the days have grown longer as the winter gives way slowly to the spring and the snow begins to lesson. However winter in Lapland is not completely over until the end of April and so that means there is plenty of time to enjoy the snow sports still on offer. The snow will begin to rapidly melt at the beginning of May as the temperature rises but temperatures will still be cold all through the month of April. Some of the activities on offer throughout March and April include beginners snowmobile trips lasting approximately two hours through the beautiful forests of Lapland, snow shoe walking involves heading for the fells, through the gullies carved by the melting ice age snow and up through the rugged scenery of Yllas. Other activities include husky dog sledging and a visit to the husky farm where you can pet and hold some of the adorable husky puppies. There is also the opportunity to visit the Lainio snow village which is situated some 35km from Akaslompolo, you will be amazed at some of the ice sculptures and will have the chance to have a light lunch in the Lainio inn. The snow village is an amazing adventure and one which the children will love, built every year from scratch the Lainio snow village is open from December until April when the temperatures begin to rise and the snow will begin to melt.
