Hot Healthy Breakfast Club Expands
Chicago - On Saturday, February 6, 2010, Team 15 United launched a bi-weekly breakfast club to serve the children of the 15th Ward. Since its inception, the Hot Healthy Breakfast Club has moved beyond serving children to serving seniors and the homeless as well. The breakfast club is a direct response to decreased services in the community due to financial issues facing many non-profit organizations that rely on state funding.
Food is provided and prepared by Team 15 United and its volunteers. Residents are served pancakes, eggs, hash browns, grits, fresh fruit and other healthy food items. The breakfast takes place at the Team 15 United Community Service Center located in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood.
The residents have responded positively to the Breakfast Club as it now serves over 150 participants. “This breakfast is priceless,” stated Mr. Andre Turner, a longtime resident of the 15th Ward. “If we can have this kind of unity at a breakfast while listening to old school dusties, we should be able to unite our ward to improve it. Mr. Burch is truly a blessing to all of us.”
William Burch, a candidate for 15th Ward Alderman and founder of Team 15 United, wants to expand the program throughout the ward and is initiating partnerships with churches and community based organizations. “I think this program not only creates a sense of community, but is also a platform to disseminate vital information. Residents can get information about various programs available -from health screenings and job openings to available housing.”
The Hot Healthy Breakfast Club is seeking more volunteers and resident participation. “We solicit volunteers from various places but it truly touches my heart when one of the families from within the Ward comes in early Saturday morning just to help out; that is confirmation that our grassroots program is working,” says Mr. Burch.
The next community breakfast is scheduled for Saturday October 16, 2010. Come and enjoy a hot breakfast of pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee with your community and friends at Team 15 United Community Service Center at 2440 W 63rd Street in Chicago from 8:30 am - 11:30 am.
Team 15 United is a community improvement association designed to include individual residents, organizations, block clubs, churches, businesses, and our supporters seeking to motivate our residents and improve the neighborhoods. Team 15 United has begun to work on a number of issues that concern members of our community and hosts events/activities around our community as well.
