Hot Off The Press! Facebook Gets A Face Lift!
Thanks to Facebook, millions of people can interact on the world wide web. Thanks to Facebook, Prineville will be able to grow and prosper, a chance to turn things around and help the economy of Central Oregon grow!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) July 3, 2010 --
Facebook is building a new facility to hold their servers in Prineville, Oregon. They picked Prineville as it stays fairly cool year round, which is imperative for the servers. Ken Patchett had said, “ Our servers can easily handle 81 degrees inside the data center!”
It is going to be a 147,000 sq. ft. building on 124 acres with the first two phases due to be finished by the end of 2010.
Facebook bought the property in January, just six months ago for 3.2 million. If things go as planned, after the first two phases are finished, they are hoping to almost double the 147,000 sq. ft. building. By thinking ahead and purchasing the 124 acres, there will be more than enough room to do just that.
Ken Patchett, Facebook’s recently hired director for the new building, said: “We’ve got to be right in front of our users demand!” The Facebook servers will host it’s users thousands of pictures, comments, games, and other information. This new Prineville building will be the first ‘Owned’ by Facebook.
The building is going to be a two story building made of concrete. The top floor will hold the servers and the bottom floor will be the lobby. It sets off of Highway 126 with a picturesque view of the wide open sky. Facebook will not have to pay property tax on the new construction for around the first fifteen years, as it is in an enterprise zone.
An enterprise zone is a city district where development receives a special tax advantage. It encourages growth and investment in distressed areas, like Prineville. The tax advantage is another reason Facebook picked Prineville as a place to build.
Because of this new building, Facebook has paid for numerous permits, including electrical, building and fire permits, all of which have been approved. Pacific Power is also building a switchyard near the land so the company can connect power to the building. All of this has helped Prineville tremendously.
Twenty-two of the thirty-four subcontractors are from Central Oregon. Construction workers are moving hard and heavy getting the huge concrete building up.
They are eating and sleeping in Prineville, which is helping the town boom. This is great for Prineville, as it has the highest unemployment in Central Oregon with a 17% rate.
When up and running, Facebook will hiring 35 people to start, to watch over the servers. They will also be hiring people for housekeeping, security, landscaping and other mechanical services once the building goes online.
Facebook, well known in the internet world as a social media site, is exactly what the owner personally lives up to. They bought a dental chair for the community Health Department, and plans to start a grant program for local nonprofits and other groups in 2011.
Facebook had over 350 million users at the end of May, and now growing to 500 Million. Facebook is known as a social site for people to keep in touch with their family and friends. For helping your business grow and they even have pay per click advertising. You can play games, add your pictures, videos and even articles to share with others.
Thanks to Facebook, millions of people can interact on the world wide web. Thanks to Facebook, Prineville will be able to grow and prosper, a chance to turn things around and help the economy of Central Oregon grow!
