Hound finds over 1,500 job opportunities for those unemployed in Alabama

The salary of a full time employee permanently residing in Alabama was $42,943 as of July 2010, and the total strength the state government has was more than 37,000 employees before the layoff. According to the Personnel Department of the state, the process of layoffs is speeding up with agencies nearing to approach the beginning of a new fiscal year.

About 582 layoffs in the Department of Mental Health and 89 layoffs in the Department of Agriculture and Industries have been made since spring due to budget cuts. It is said that the legal field has gone beyond cutting fat and muscle and now they are down to cutting bone.

The Alabama court is cutting off 252 workers in circuit clerks' offices and 20 workers in state administrative offices. This is said to bring the total cuts to 423 or 20 percent of the staff especially those attached to layoffs of 151 juvenile trial officers, bailiffs, and court administrative employees.

The State Department of Public Safety is falling short of a $6 million budget and for which it had to cut a group of 38 from the state payroll.

Many agencies haven't been planning cut offs since they rely on federal funding or have stable revenue sources. Still others are waiting to see the number of retirements in the next few months before taking any layoff decisions.
