Being a real estate agent is much more difficult now than it has ever been. With the decline of housing prices and the gluttony of foreclosures hitting the markets, why would anyone want such a job? Enter, Sherri Bloom. She has been a realtor for 2 years now and is making lemon aid out of lemons. Sherri had a long career in the recycling industry in Oregon. She moved to Peachtree City, GA in 2009 where she became interested in real estate. She went to school to get her license and is now working with a brokerage firm and following her passion. "I was in sales for eight years and really missed working in customer service. This career allows me to actively do both," says Sherri. "I know the markets are down and a lot of my friends thought I was nuts for entering the real estate world in this day and age. It is much more difficult getting clients, but a little ingenuity and creative marketing pays off."

Sherri uses creative marketing techniques to corral interested people in buying and selling their houses such as her website, www.sherrikbloom.com and visiting area events. "I get myself involved in local events for two reasons. First, it is a great way to give back to the community and secondly, it gives me the ability to network." Sherri has been involved with the local area Chamber of Commerce, the Peachtree City Running Club, the Peachtree City Dog Park and is a member of the Fayette County Board of Realtors.

"Of course it is a tough business today, but there is one aspect of being a Realtor in today's market that people don't think about. Back in the housing boom everyone seemed to be a real estate agent. Those people have now left the market which leaves only the dedicated folks around. I'm creating a good work ethic now so when the markets turn around, I will already be established in my community ready to take on the world of real estate."
