FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jacksonville, Florida, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) August 17, 2011 -- Recently, there have been several confirmed human cases of the West Nile Virus in our area and officials say there is a heightened concern that more people will become sick. "There have been eight cases of West Nile Virus just in the local area, with meningitis and encephalitis, and sadly one victim of the disease has passed away. “Residents need to be proactive to protect themselves and their family.” Says John Cooksey, Chief Entomologist at McCall Service.

The best way to prevent West Nile and Encephalitis is to avoid the viruses that cause them and protect your home against mosquito’s. It is extremely important for local residents to be educated and take precautions when outside

McCall offers a few tips that may help keep you and your family safe and mosquito-free. Use insect repellents containing an EPA-registered active ingredient when you are outdoors, wear long sleeves and pants at dusk and dawn - when mosquitoes are most active, and consider staying indoors during those times of day. Some other steps you can take are change the water in pet dishes daily, replace the water in bird baths weekly, drill holes in tire swings so water drains out and keep your children's wading pools empty and on their sides when they aren't being used.

It is important to be diligent when starting a mosquito remediation program. Making sure your window and door screens are properly installed will help to keep mosquitoes out. However, the most significant way to protect yourself against these viruses is to eliminate mosquitoes around your home. McCall recommends eliminating and treating mosquito breeding sites, areas of adult populations and areas of human contact. The McCall Mosquito Control Program is designed to target common mosquito breeding and resting sites such as standing water from flower pots, buckets and barrels where mosquitoes lay their eggs and to treat those sites by applying environmentally-safe preventative treatments for mosquito larvae. John Cooksey, Entomologist and McCall’s Mosquito expert has made himself available to answer questions about Mosquito control from the public. He can be reached at 800-342-6948.
