How do you find that good tradie needle in the haystack?
How do you find that good tradie needle in the haystack?
According to a number of surveys, the vast majority of Australians hire a tradesperson based on reputation rather than price.

Home owners are searching for a trustworthy service provider, who is able to deliver the expected job undertakings with punctuality and professionalism.
The most recent numbers provided on the NSW Office of Fair Trading website, show that over 6200 complaints were lodged in a twelve month period. The data lists various causes for these complaints with poor workmanship being the major cause. These complaints clearly indicate how difficult is to find a reliable service provider.
Think about the last time you needed a tradesperson? How did you find them? You probably spent some time asking for referrals from people you know. It can sound a bit old fashioned “word of mouth”, but can still be a preference for many people which shows the importance of tradies having a good reputation.
But what do people do if their friends and family don’t know of a trusted tradie? Or if they move to another state and don’t have any friends yet? Worst still, what do you do if you don’t know what sort of tradie you need to do the job?
“Our home may be our biggest asset but many of us don’t know where to start when it comes to getting professional legal or building advice; or even finding a trusted tradesperson to do a simple job”, explains Pia Vogel, HomeSource Joint Managing Director.
HomeSource, the national home-owner advisory service, can assist home owners through the Home Trades Help Line by providing access to a database of qualified local tradesmen and contractors, as well as on call builders who have agreed to meet high standards of workmanship and customer service.
“Our stringent professional criteria mean less risk of hiring dodgy tradesmen and less wasted time. All you need to do is pick up the phone. We’ll give you all the right advice and access to our database of expert, qualified tradespeople in your area” Pia says.
In addiction, with the users feedbacks system, only service providers who are consistently appointed as a good professional (in the opinion of the customers) are utilised by HomeSource and the Home Trades Help Line membership will allow the member to check the tradies referrals online anytime. It works like an “online word of mouth” resource.
“HomeSource has become the home safety net for so many Australians. And we can help you too,” says Pia.
An annual membership fee of $79.95 entitles you to 4 builder consultations either on-line or over the phone and unlimited access to our trades directory. The suppliers listed on the database have not paid to be there. Their inclusion is based on their service standards, proof of license and insurances, and their promise to abide by our code of conduct requiring the highest service levels to customers.
