How does a mammographer get trained in digital mammography?

August 2, 2011 Medical news in Albuquerque,New Mexico, United States of America

Many technologists and Mammography Department managers are confused about how and where they can obtain MQSA-approved 8-hour training for Digital Mammography.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) August 2, 2011 -- The simplest answer is the MQSA DOES NOT require that the 8-hour FFDM training be in the form of CE credits. Although CE credits are an acceptable manner in which to receive the training, it is also acceptable to receive the training in other formats.
Further explanation is included below.
MQSA Hotline (1-800-838-7715) for guidance regarding the required technologist training for FFDM.

RadComm, Inc. offers a 3.5 credit course in FFDM that is designed to introduce the technologist to new digital terminology and practices. This will serve as a valuable foundation in understanding digital mammography. With an additional 4.5 hours of “hands-on” digital training in the mammography department by a qualified and experienced FFDM technologist or medical physicist, the mammographer can satisfy the 8-hour MQSA FFDM training requirement. The 4.5 hours of “hands-on” training does NOT earn continuing education credits.

It is extremely important to obtain documentation from the training provider detailing the dates, hours in training, location, name and credentials of the instructor, and the content of the training. This documentation serves as evidence of the FFDM modality training requirement for MQSA.

It is also important to mention that MQSA DOES NOT specify the content of the instruction. Information related to image acquisition, patient positioning, equipment operation, technical selections, image critique, and quality control testing as outlined by the manufacturer are examples of information that may be included during the FFDM training sessions.

RadComm, Inc. is committed to your success in the field of mammography. We hope this information will resolve some of the confusion surrounding digital mammography training.
