Digital agency water&stone is out to find out, and is conducting research of social media engagement by travel brands in Asia. The research will form the basis for the publication of a white paper, entitled the 2010 Asia Travel Engagement Report.

The water&stone report represents the first attempt to assess the social media adoption rates and methodologies of the travel industry in Asia. The paper identifies the Top 25 Most Engaged Brands, based upon extensive research into the various social media channels. The research will be supplemented with a survey of industry players throughout the region. The survey is now open and members of the travel industry in Asia are invited to participate. The Asia Travel Engagement Report will be published prior to the annual EyeForTravel Travel Distribution Summit held in Singapore on April 28 and 29. The report’s findings will be the subject of discussion at the Social Media Workshop run at the conference by water&stone on 28 April. The report itself will be available for free download the last week of April. In addition to covering the Top 25 Brands, the paper also includes a discussion of best practices and an examination of how channels like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr are being used by travel brands in Asia.


“Surveys of a similar nature have been conducted for Fortune 500 brands in the global market, but no one has yet attempted to look at what’s happening specifically in our region,” states Ric Shreves, partner at water&stone and lead analyst on the report. “We chose to focus on the travel industry because the sector has proven to be a leader and an early adopter of online marketing channels. From our examination of social media channels, travel is clearly at the forefront in terms of adoption and innovation.”
