When turned on, the ABC setting can set the camera's flash, aperture and shutter timer to compensate for your lighting conditions in the scene.

Photographers should only start your vehicle backlighting control when they want to accentuate the grade of backlighting inside their pictures. Backlighting gives photos a mysterious, intriguing quality.

When the backlight within the camera's lens is dull (as well as the film is of normal speed), then your auto backlighting control will widen the aperture, increase the risk for flash brighter and extend the shutter timer. Conversely, when the backlighting of your scene is brighter, your vehicle backlighting control (ABC) will adjust the camera's settings in order that less light enters the camera's lens. As a result, the aperture will probably be constricted, the flash will dampen and shutter time will probably be shorter.
