How to Celan Low-E Glass

Low-E glass has many benefits when it comes to energy efficiency, heating and cooling and sound proofing. Where it becomes a real challenge is keeping the glass clean. Many new buildings are opting to install Low-E glass in homes, business and shops.

Steel will leave small deposits on the glass in the form of fine black lines. The most important aspect when cleaning inside of this glass is to never scrape or scrub with any steel material. Even the slightest touch of steel will mark the glass so be careful with the edges of your squeegee too. These lines are very hard to remove and are noticeable in direct sunlight.

It is always important to check the glass has been installed the correct way. The glass has two different sides that require different cleaning techniques. Generally the outside will be regular laminated glass , which can be cleaned the traditional way. The inside is usually the coated side, that provides the more challenging aspect.

The coating sticks to the rubber squeegee channel and creates more friction. It is best if you only pull your squeegee in one direction, rather than trying to fan or 's-curve' across the glass. Even if the glass is free of construction debris, stickers and tape, a regular clean is still much harder. The interior coating of the glass is much harder to squeegee across than normal glass.

Now that you are unable to use traditional scraping and scrubbing methods on this glass, it makes removing stickers and tape even more difficult. Try to pull as much of the tape off with your hands, and then the remaining tape can be rubbed off with acetone, a cloth and some hard work. Many construction cleans I have been to with Low-Emissivity glass have large strips of tape through the middle of the glass so it doesn't accidentally get smashed.
