how to find work in a ski resort, if the normal way doesn't work...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 18, 2010 -- So lets see here...

You want to do a snow season down in the Southern Hemi this year??

(This technique works in pretty much any country, minding you don’t offend anyone...)

The respective resorts will be holding interviews in all major cities in Australia from March through April. But what if you miss out or don’t get in?

Don’t panic. Yet.

If you’re serious about getting work in one of the resorts, you’ll get it.

Follow these steps.

First: Look for work on the employment section of whichever resort you have in your sights. Buller, Hotham, Thredbo etc. Apply for whatever position you wish, send off a resume, cover letter, whatever. But wait a minute.. thats what everyone else will be doing. Our goal here is to stand out.

Secondly: So... find out their phone number. If its not stated on the employment ad, even better (means other people won’t phone them). just yellow pages their arse and give them a call. Get through to someone with responsibility and on the phone convey your enthusiasm and tell them you don’t drink much. Don’t stress over about what to say, just stay calm and have a nice old conversation with them. Pick their brain about work on the mountain and how to get it. the key is: act keen without trying too hard.

Thirdly: Since you’re on a roll here and having heaps of fun making new friends, call up anywhere on the mountain that you could think of to work and call them too even if they’re not advertising. If they have nothing to offer, don’t be discouraged. If you show a friendly interest, most people will share what they can with you to help you out regarding anything from lift tickets and getting snow gear to accommodation and parking.

Keep a list of contacts, and as you call up new places you can say, “Hello, I am and looking for seasonal work and Keith from Snowsports told me to call you guys, said you might have a position available.” You learn quickly that referrals. kick. arse.

Lastly: If you about to explode over sheer excitement about working a season and its starting to snow. Pack up the car and go there. Make sure you have a bit of cash to keep you there for a week or so. You could stay at a caravan park off mountain until you get work. Don’t go riding, simply walk the snow covered streets and laneways and talk to everyone! Someone will have something or know someone who does.

Once you have a job, you’ll get to know people who can help you out with buying skis or a board, and some employers will even give you a season pass! Woo hoo!

Good Luck,

go get em’ tiger!
