How to fire up your motivation and get more done

When the days get shorter and the nights longer, when the cold winter weather makes us feel like crawling under our duvets and hibernating until next May, how do we get motivated to do the things we need to do?
Leaving the gym until the new year and starting the year two sizes bigger terrifies most of us, swapping studying for the xbox, or homework for a night of TV in front of the fire may seem appealing at first, but we may have to pay dearly later for our procrastination.
Now experts have found there are four essential keys to motivation. It seems that the secret to getting off our backside and getting stuff done resides in our mind. As it turns out we may not be plain lazy after all!
Neuro Linguistic Programming is a mind technology developed in the 70s that can allow us to understand and learn how to use our brain in more useful ways to fire up our motivation.
NLP Life Coach Anna Aparicio, who uses the technology with her clients, says 4 vital keys to motivation are: using the right motivational language, speaking to ourselves in more motivational ways, using our body language to energize us, and playing motivational movies inside our minds.
“We all motivate ourselves successfully every day. If you get up in the morning and you get to work on time every day then you have a great motivational strategy to get yourself to work on time. You may not have been consciously aware of it until now, but you have disciplined yourself well”.
It seems that becoming aware of how we get motivated to do certain things, or learning other people’s strategies for motivation can also make a big difference.
“Some of my customers have gone from being couch potatoes to being gym freaks in a matter of weeks” says Anna “you can really change your mind and change things. Whether you want to go to the gym, eat healthier, study more, get more work done, or get out more... whatever you want to be able to do, you can do it”.
It’s about building up more useful habits to the point where they get so ingrained in our unconscious that they are just part of who we are.
