The Xbox 360 ejects a disc tray for loading game discs into the DVD drive. A stuck or “jammed” disc tray won't close on its own and renders the game console unusable. Fixing the disc tray can be done at home, avoiding professional service cost and time. A few tools are necessary, but expertise in electronics isn't a requisite

Instructions

Remove all of the cables from the Xbox 360. Place the Xbox 360 horizontally on a table with the power button facing you. Squeeze the upper left corner of the faceplate with one hand while pulling up on the USB port door at the lower right corner with the other hand. Remove the faceplate. Place the faceplate aside.

Turn on the flashlight. Aim the flashlight above the ejected disc tray. Locate the black rubber band that's inside of the bottom edge of the disc tray door.

Insert one end of the toothpick through the left side of the black rubber band. Lift up on the end of the toothpick to separate the black rubber band from the nub that it's looped around. Pull the black rubber band off the nub it's attached to on the right side. Pull the black rubber band out of the disc tray door with tweezers. Turn off the flashlight.

Wash the black rubber band in dishwashing liquid and tap water. Let the rubber band dry overnight. Turn on the flashlight. Aim the flashlight above the ejected disc tray.

Loop the black rubber band over the nub inside of the bottom edge on the left side of the disc tray door with tweezers. Insert one end of the toothpick through the black rubber band. Stretch the rubber band over the nub inside of the bottom edge on the right side of the disc tray door.

Place the faceplate back onto the Xbox 360. Reattach the cables. Turn on the XBox 360. Press the “Eject” button on the front of the Xbox 360 to close the disc tray.




Tips & Warnings
Pulling on the disc tray can break it.
