How To Perform An NYS Inmate Lookup
Like with so much other information, the Internet has opened up the world of prisons and corrections.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) June 11, 2011 --
Like with so much other information, the Internet has opened up the world of prisons and corrections. While a lot of the information was always available, it is now just a question of getting to a computer and opening a browser. Undertaking an NYS inmate lookup has never been this easy.
Perhaps the easiest way to do this is to get online and check the Department of Correctional Services website. This site has a search function for those who need information about a certain inmate. The records go back to the early 1970s and extend to the present. New York State law has judged this to be public information, thus the database is open to all web surfers.
In order to look someone up, you will need a few things. If you know their DIN, or Department Identification Number, their information should pop right up. Otherwise, you can use an inmate's name and date of birth for an exact match. Failing that, searching a last name alone might work, but you will have to sift through all inmates with that name, so it might take a little longer that way.
In terms of youthful or juvenile offenders, records are kept off the site. This is in compliance with New York law. Those who were convicted between sixteen and eighteen fall into this category. The database also leaves out some other records.
