How to Remove a DVD Drive From a Dell Inspiron 8600
The Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop comes with a modular device bay to make it easy to remove and install new components. The device bay comes preloaded with a DVD drive. Although it also comes with a screw to secure the DVD drive in place, this screw doesn't come preinstalled with the Dell Inspiron 8600 computer. If you want to remove the DVD drive to add a new one or install a different device, you can remove it from the module bay easier than other laptop models.
Instructions
Without a Device Screw
1
Turn off the power to your computer. Remove any cables connected to your Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop, including the power cord. Set the computer on a hard, level surface to gain easy access to the unit.
2
Locate the DVD drive. Press the large latch release button on the bottom-right side of the DVD drive door. The latch release button will pop out of the unit.
3
Pull the latch release button away from the Inspiron 8600 to pull out the DVD drive. Pull it out slowly and firmly to avoid damaging any components.
With a Device Screw
1
Turn off the power to your computer and disconnect any cables or cords.
2
Close the laptop display until it clicks into place. Turn over the Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop so that the bottom is facing up.
3
Remove the screw placed over the latch release button of the DVD drive using a No. 1 Phillips head screwdriver. Set the screw aside.
4
Press the latch release button to pop it out. Pull the button evenly and slowly to remove the DVD drive.
