How to: Streaming YouTube Videos with VLC Media Player

This feature may appear as a novelty but I have tried it extensively with various versions and it rocks — although, it’s true, you may ask me why I would want to utilize something that Youtube already provides? The reason why I apparently searched for an alternative solution to browser based video streaming was the Flash Plug-in crash syndrome.

YouTube videos have always troubled my web browsers including Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome slowing them down and sometimes crashing them.

The VLC Media Player’s capability to stream YouTube videos comes in handy if you face trouble viewing videos in your web browser like me and VLC also adds more detailed YouTube video display options. Let’s give this a try!

All you have to do is go to the VLC Media Player Menu Options: Media > Open Network Stream and paste the link of the video stream that is usually available from video streaming websites like Youtube. After that, just click the VLC Play button — it will enable you to play YouTube videos right away.

The streaming video feature in VLC Media Player, despite being interesting, still needs a bit of improvements by adding an integrated web browser in order to avoid the need of opening a separate program to browse to and search a YouTube video and then paste the link into the VLC Media player.
